Who is a Good Candidate for a Body Lift
A body lift is an abdominoplasty, thigh lift and buttock lift all combined in the one procedure.- Women who have finished having children and are left with excess tissue on the abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks.
- Men or women who have had significant weight loss either by dieting or by weight loss surgery such as gastric banding.
The Procedure
- General anaesthesia is used and the procedure takes about five to six hours.
- The incision extends from the pubic hairline, across the hips, around the waist and to the midline of the back.
- The excess skin and fat is removed.
- The remaining skin on the abdomen is stretched down to the excision line and the hips and buttocks are lifted.
- The skin incisions are sutured with buried, dissolving sutures.
- Soft, small drains are inserted to eliminate excess fluid.
- A firm elastic support garment is applied and worn for about three weeks.
Recovery after a Body Lift
- You will usually stay in hospital for three to four days.
- You can shower on the third day after surgery.
- Moderate discomfort for the first two days that is much less by the third day.
- Swelling and bruising is mild to moderate.
- You can resume light activities after two weeks and full aerobic activities by about six weeks.
- You are off work for about two to four weeks depending on your activity of work.
Results from a Body Lift
