General anaesthesia is used for a breast enlargement and the surgery takes about one and a half hours.
Incisions are usually placed in the crease below the breast, but can also be located in the armpit or around the nipple.
The implants used are cohesive gel, which can either have a round or anatomical (teardrop) shape. The implants may also have a smooth or rough (textured) surface.
The implants are inserted into a pocket either directly under the breast on top of the muscle, or under the muscle.
The wound is sutured with dissolving sutures and covered with tape.
Usually a small, soft drain tube is inserted for one to two days.

You can go home the next day or sometimes on the same day.
You can shower over the dressings after breast enlargement surgery.
Most patients experience moderate pain for the first two days that is mostly gone by the third day and easily controlled by medications.
You may experience swelling that is mild to moderate and mild bruising for the first week. This rapidly disappears in the weeks following the breast augmentation surgery.
Typically, the breast implants appear high on the chest for the first three weeks after the breast enlargement surgery, before swelling subsides and then they settle into a normal position and contour.
You can resume many activities after the first week and most by third week.
You may need to be off work for one to two weeks.
You will be reviewed after one week, when the dressings are changed.
