General anaesthesia is usually used and the surgery takes about three to five hours.
A thin excision extends from within the hairline above the ear, continuing in front of and inside the ear, around the earlobe and occasionally may be extended behind the ear and into the hairline. No hair is shaved.
Excess skin is removed and the face is lifted and tightened.
The muscles and deeper tissues (platysma and SMAS layer) of the face and neck are lifted and tightened to enable the facelift result to last longer.
Excess fat can be removed from the chin if required by either liposuction or excision.
Small soft drains are in place for one day.
A bulky dressing is removed on the first post operative day and a small compression garment is applied for one to two weeks.
The surgery can be combined with eyelid surgery.

You can go home the next day.
You can shower the next day after face lift surgery.
Minimal pain is mostly gone by the second or third day and easily controlled by medication.
Swelling is mild to moderate for the first week and disappears thereafter.
Minimal bruising which disappears by seven to ten days.
You are able to apply makeup approximately four days after surgery and appear comfortably in public after two weeks.
Resume many activities within the second week and most by three weeks.
Sutures are removed at six days and the rest at ten days.
Able to return to work in ten to fourteen days.

Lasts for several years and always looks better than if you did not have surgery.
Not a “windswept” look.
Natural and presentable appearance in the second week that continues to improve over the next six months.
