Who is a Good Candidate for Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)?

• Patients who are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose.
• Patients who have a hump on the bridge of their nose.

• Patients who have a deformed or crooked nose following previous injuries.

The Procedure

• General anaesthesia is used and the surgery takes about one to three hours.
• The skin of the nose is lifted off the underlying bone and cartilage which are then sculpted to the desired shape.
• The incisions are located inside the nostrils and usually across the columella (the thin strip of skin between the nostrils).
• The incisions are sutured with dissolvable and some small nylon sutures which are removed after six days.
• Soft nasal packs are usually placed in your nostrils.
• A plastic splint is applied to the nose to maintain its new shape.

Recovery After Nose Surgery

• You can go home the next day after removal of the nasal packs.
• The nasal splint and sutures are removed after one week.  
• Most patients experience minimal pain which is mostly gone by the next day and is easily controlled by medications.
• Bruising increases for the first two to three days, especially around the eyes but is usually gone by ten to fourteen days.
• You can resume light activities within the first week and most normal activities by at least three weeks.
• Expect to be off work for about one to two weeks.
