Who is a Good Candidate for Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)?

The Procedure
- General anaesthesia is used and the surgery takes about one to three hours.
- The skin of the nose is lifted off the underlying bone and cartilage which are then sculpted to the desired shape.
- The incisions are located inside the nostrils and usually across the columella (the thin strip of skin between the nostrils).
- The incisions are sutured with dissolvable and some small nylon sutures which are removed after six days.
- Soft nasal packs are usually placed in your nostrils.
- A plastic splint is applied to the nose to maintain its new shape.
Recovery After Nose Surgery
- You can go home the next day after removal of the nasal packs.
- The nasal splint and sutures are removed after one week.
- Most patients experience minimal pain which is mostly gone by the next day and is easily controlled by medications.
- Bruising increases for the first two to three days, especially around the eyes but is usually gone by ten to fourteen days.
- You can resume light activities within the first week and most normal activities by at least three weeks.
- Expect to be off work for about one to two weeks.
